Preparation for Sacraments at Saint Henry

Baptism- A Baptismal Preparation class is required for parents.  This class helps parents appreciate the promises they will be making the day of the special event by reviewing the sacrament, its history, the symbolism of the different items used during the sacrament and the importance of faith-filled Godparents.  The baptism is celebrated after the completion of the required session.  Classes are offered in both English and Spanish on a quarterly basis in February, May, August & November.  Planning ahead is helpful!  Please contact Marcy Bunds in the Parish office with questions.  The website and bulletin have updated class dates and times. Godparents are encouraged to attend the class with the parents and required to provide qualification documentation from their current pastor. Adults interested in baptism should contact Father Bradley.

Reconciliation- Preparation for First Reconciliation begins in 1st grade Faith Formation and continues through 2nd grade.  Consistent attendance is important to ensure proper formation.  The sacrament of Reconciliation is received in 2nd grade for the first time.

**Adults who have been away from the sacrament of reconciliation and would like more info are welcome to pick up some reading material in the vestibule or office as well as make an appointment with Fr. Bradley.  If you have never received the sacrament and would like more information please contact us. The sacrament is celebrated every Saturday before the vigil mass from 4:15 to 4:45 and by appointment.  Special Advent and Lenten Penance opportunities are made available as well.

First Eucharist- Preparation for First Holy Communion is a two year event which is begun in 1st grade and continues through 2nd grade.  Consistent class attendance, regular Mass attendance and follow up at home are all very important. Classes are very “hands on” and the students experience a variety of activities to enhance the learning process.  The sacrament of Holy Communion is received for the first time in the spring of 2nd grade.  **Individuals who have missed the sacrament and are in need of “catching up” should call the parish office and speak to Father Bradley about the possibilities available to different age groups for classes. Adult interested should inquire into the RCIA class (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults).

Confirmation- Preparation for Confirmation requires a minimum of two years within the Faith Formation program immediately prior to the Confirmation year.  In the Diocese of Tulsa, students are Confirmed in the 11th grade.  It is presumed that the students have been actively learning within the program throughout their school years here at Saint Henry.  The Confirmation year helps the student determine if s/he is ready to make the commitment to confirm (say yes to) the baptismal promises that his/her parents made for him/her on the day of Baptism.  This is a year of personal growth, maturation and discernment; regular attendance is required as are a variety of activities including regular Mass attendance, group events as a well as a diocesan required retreat.  Confirmation generally takes place immediately following Easter.  **Adults who have never received the sacrament of Confirmation should contact Father Bradley  for info on how to prepare to receive Confirmation.

Each year the sophomore parents and students host the the Confirmation Reception each year. Please contact Leisha Jury if you would like to help.

Marriage-   Saint Henry follows the guidelines of the Diocese of Tulsa. Couples who are ready to discuss marriage should make an appointment with Father Bradley no less than 6 months prior to the proposed wedding date. (Dates for the Church cannot be reserved until after the couple has met with Father.) The Diocesan required Pre-Cana ( Pre-Marriage preparation classes) are available through the diocese’s Family Life Office and need to be planned for accordingly. Guidance in choosing readings, music, lectors and musicians is available here at Saint Henry and recommended to ensure a beautiful event.

Anointing of the Sick- An individual may be anointed when they are seriously ill or prior to surgery.  This sacrament is celebrated at various times throughout the year following Mass and is available by appointment also.  Please contact Father Bradley or call the Parish Office at 918.272.3710

Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life- If you or someone you know would like more information about discerning their vocation in life please call Father Bradley or Elizabeth for resources. Diocesan contacts are available as well at tulsavocations.com.
